Autumn is gathering...

Autumn is harvest time. The garden is flowing with produce to be stored for the winter. Gathering, preserving, freezing excess produce. The cooler evenings and shorter days are a time to share your harvest with family and friends. Capsicums, eggplant, squash and spinach grace our dinner plates. The long-keepers are harvested and stored in cool dark rooms so to last the winter... onions, kumara, beetroot, pumpkin and potatoes.

Autumn fruit is dripping from the trees... apples, pears, nashi, figs, quinces and the sub-tropical feijoa, so unique to New Zealand cuisine. Take time to savour this time of year and enjoy the variety of produce. Spend time in the kitchen capturing these flavours into chutneys and preserves.
