Finding Equilibrium within Chaos
Sunday 25th of September 2011
As I was sowing my pea seeds this weekend I starting thinking how different my garden looks now compared to post children...
I am sure I am not the only one who finds life since becoming a parent not quite as organised as it was pre-baby. As I look around the house now I see toys lying on the ground, dirty dishes on the bench and a pile of paper on the kitchen table (it will get read and sorted one day!). I know these things would have made me anxious in the past but now I casually step over the toys and avoid looking at the dishes as I settle at the computer to write.
In the early days with a new baby I would spend my precious ‘rest time’ doing dishes, folding washing, cleaning the bathroom etc. By the end of the day even though the house was spic and span I was too exhausted to even enjoy it! What I have since learnt is to accept the mess and do something for me, such as have a much needed rest while my daughter sleeps, cooking a new recipe I have been itching to try, or go for a walk with a friend. The dishes will wait by my sanity won't!
