Nicola Galloway -mum, trained chef and nutrition

Nicola Galloway

Nicola Galloway is the mother of two young children, Mika (3 years) and Teo (14 months). She is a trained chef with a diploma in natural nutrition (Canada) and is passionate about the benefits of healthy and flavoursome food. She is a self-taught food stylist and photographer, sharing her family-friendly recipes and photography (plus videos) on her popular food blog Homegrown Kitchen.

Nicola is the author of three recipe books, Alive! including gluten- and dairy-free recipes (Alive Foods, 2004); Cooking for your Child (CPP, 2006) and the recently released Feeding Little Tummies – healthy recipes from first foods to toddler meals (CPP, 2011). She is the food editor for Wild Tomato Magazine and the The Natural Parent magazine and contributes articles and recipes to other publications including OrganicNZ, Little Treasures and Good magazine.

Nicola draws on her experience working as a live-in nanny while travelling overseas, and more recently cooking for her own children to write Feeding Little Tummies (read the foreword). For the past 9 years she has run her own business as a nutirition and healthy cooking educator including cooking classes, healthy eating seminars, nutrition consulting, and supermarket tours.

Nicola lives in Nelson, New Zealand with her family where she makes the most of the high sunshine hours with an organic garden and small orchard of heirloom fruit trees. To compliment her garden harvest she likes to buy direct from the growers and producers at the local farmers markets. She includes her children on these food excursions as she wants them to grow up knowing their food comes from a real person rather than a supermarket shelf.

Feedback

"Nicola's ability to explain ideas and concepts is amazing – always giving us 'easy' explanations and offering extra avenues if we got stuck. Nicola is obviously passionate about food and helping people. She lives and breathes all that she shares. A real inspiration"

"Thank-you Nicola for the course – it has changed my ideas and what we do for the whole family. I am loving the benefits of eating well - boy do I feel better, especially without the hungry low dips during the day - so thank you again!"

"Wow! The supermarket tour was so interesting. I learnt how to make better choices between brands. I recommend this to all interested in nutrition - the new knowledge has definitely influenced my shopping."
